Laissez Les Bon Temps Roulez

August 13, 2010 in General Motors, GM, GM IPO, GM Profits, Opinions, Philosophy, Political, President Barack Obama, This and That

To borrow from the wonderful New Orleans French rallying cry for Mardi Gras – Let the Good Times Roll!

And, roll they will. GM turned a huge corner today in posting it’s biggest profit since 2004. GM also went public again…hope everyone knows what this means, but, just in case…it means it’s a “publicly held company,” and not a government-held on, even if it was just partial.

To those who turn all positives into a negative when it threatens to contradict their political viewpoint, I stick my tongue out to you all. I’m looking for and celebrating the good news about GM, and have confidence in the long-term plans set forth by Pres. Obama two 1/2 years ago.

Also to those who say it’s time to forget about the past and blame everything on Pres. Obama, I say you’re nuts. If we do that, the same issues will keep surfacing and hurting us all. Pres. Obama inherited a mammoth disaster, and in spite of constant criticisms and no cooperation, he moved forward with a visionary plan. I am not sorry to see that it’s working, although I know some of you are.

Glorify Bush at your own risk. Intellectuals will not let you twist written history. Be sure of that. Furthermore, this disaster WAS caused by Bush policies, but it is up to Pres. Obama to remedy the situation, and he’s doing a fine job. But those who hate him will continue their ceaseless slanderous opinions. People are catching on now, and more will in the future as it’s fully realized what’s really behind the hate of Obama. Forewarned.

And, finally, to those who think the best path is continued criticism, negativism, and no cooperation, I say that’s your privilege, but trust me, people will eventually want to start feeling good again, and you bitter folks will be left behind in your own little small group. Fair Warning.

Red + Blue = Purple

August 4, 2010 in Opinions, Philosophy, Political, racism, This and That

(Originally published on Aug. 4, 2010)

What a marvelous life! Had lunch today with a beautiful, intellectual, warm and honest woman. Our conversation was exhilarating, and joyful.

Makes me wonder why many say “it’s the little thing in life that count.” Our conversation today might be one of those “little things” that people refer to, but I find these events to be magnificent. Not little things at all.

But, not to bore you with my silly giddiness anymore, I’ll get right to the purpose of my rambling tonight. During the course of our conversation, many things came up and one had to do with people’s seemingly inability to find common ground. When did we slide into such a state of division? When did we forget the unique and complex qualities that each human possesses? When did we decide that to affiliate meant to check independent brain cells at the door, and follow thought and logic of the numbers?

I’m particularly fascinated at the ease in which someone can adhere to a doctrine that attributes a strict criteria, with no wiggle room, to any particular affiliation. In other words, I’ve observed that we’ve figuratively and literally entered a culture of black and white where gray does not exist. I’ll bet many parents would be hard pressed to see the many beautiful talents of their children in this harsh b/w way, yet so many kids are being primed to carry these views into adulthood, anyway. Sad.

To the title…when the subject of finding common ground came up, the notion of mixing colors together was discussed as an analogy to the current political gridlock.

Why can’t we say – you like red, and I like blue, but I’ll bet we can mix them together and make purple, which we both like.?
