7 Weeks Nicotine Free
September 25, 2010 in Chantix, cigarettes, Nicotine, non-smoking, Quit Smoking
I’m a new person. Literally.
Well, alright then, having got that out of the way I think it’s my responsibility to keep you up to date on how I’m doing with non-smoking. After I all I brought it up first.
So let me start with a lecture (I said I wouldn’t do that, but I have to). I’m recovering from serious surgery, and doing very well. If I were still smoking, I would not be. That’s a fact. If a person smokes, doesn’t matter what kind of surgery you might have, recovery will be a lot more difficult. Don’t start smoking. Quit Smoking – NOW
I know that me just saying the above isn’t going to make it happen, but maybe this will. I just had open heart surgery with a valve replacement and 3 bypasses, but no heart attack. I was not diagnosed with a blessed thing other than 10% blood flow through my veins. I am a lucky woman, a grateful woman, an alive woman – thanks to diagnosis, wonderful health care and prayers from my friends and family. I am recovering quickly because I did stop smoking….fact is though, if I had never smoked probably none of this would have happened.
Smoking affects much much more than your lungs…it affects every single organ in your body. My blood flow was so constricted I was a ticking time bomb. Prior to the surgery I was chalking up several “mysterious” ailments (like numbness in legs, hands, etc.) to “getting old.” I adjusted to that life by rationalizing it. Now I can breathe, and the mysterious ailments have disappeared.
In closing, fair warning, smoking WILL have a negative impact on your life, even if you’re healthy as sin. It WILL catch up with you. You might not be as lucky as me, you might have a heart attack before the problem is fixed.
I love you all so much and it’s from that context that I’m writing these…I’m not superior, and I quit smoking with the help of Chantix. Please if you do smoke, don’t think of it as something you get “pleasure out of” as a way of justifying it….go to the Chantix web site. Anyone who decided to quit smoking will certainly have my 100% support and encouragement in any way I can give it.
