Black Hole Whirlpool

August 30, 2010 in Opinions

Down and down it goes, into the black hole with the other fragments of matter spinning round and round.

Knowing next to nothing about black holes other than they’re scary as hell, I imagine that matter breaking apart and falling into the whirlpool doesn’t happen all at once. I think the matter probably starts splintering slowly, and later escalates into full-force firecracker-like intensity.

I fear all brain cells on earth are splitting in two and have been falling into the black hole for some time. The splintering and resulting rush downward (or upward, depending on your perspective) is getting faster and faster. Welcome to the Cultural Dark Ages. (Thanks Carolyn)[dailymotion]

Why Did Adam Take a Bite Out of that Damn Apple?

August 25, 2010 in Opinions

If the story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, and the tree of knowledge is to be believed, I’ve often wondered why Adam took a bite of the apple (by the way, apples were not even in existence then or there, but that’s beside the point).

Being female I can almost imagine that when Eve was put together from one of Adam’s ribs she was also given a powerful and potent gene that showed her the way to getting anything she wanted. However, the question remains: Why did Adam take a bite? He didn’t have to, you know. When one of his ribs were taken from him, do you suppose he lost his temptation-resisting gene, and that explains why men are the way they are now?

I’ve often thought that it’s quite peculiar that we were supposedly given an ideal environment, with no life challenges and stresses and Adam chose to throw all that away by eating from the tree of knowledge, which he was warned not to do. My theory is this: life is nothing like that first Garden of Eden so man had to find an explanation for the reality of life; hence, eat the apple, gain some knowledge, become aware you’re nekked, and all that stuff. So was written in the Bible by an ordinary man, much in the same context that mythology was used to explain the complexities of life, nature and the world.

I’m sure (at least I certainly hope) that to most of you this is nothing new or earth shattering. But I wonder sometimes if we aren’t always trying to find that mythical Garden of Eden, and that thinking in terms of black and white will take us back to it.

Life has all the colors of a rainbow, and thinking in terms of black and white isn’t going to change that.
